POPULAR LOCALITIES OF NORTH KOLKATA -MANICKTALA & BOWBAZAR

  1. Maniktala

One of the interesting aspects of Kolkata is its bustling bazaars, which are a riot of colours, smell and tastes. They are nothing but organised chaos. To walk through them is an enthralling and overwhelming experience. Vendors shouting to draw attention to their merchandise, customers bargaining and sampling items before purchasing them are part and parcel of the marketing experience. I have always been appreciative to the vibrancy of a marketplace, hence couldn't resist the urge to take a few clicks at Maniktala bazaar, one of the oldest and largest in the city.

  1. Bowbazar

Sweet cravings..... Bengalis are known for their eternal love for sweets, hence it isn't surprising that festivals have special sweets associated with them. A Sunday evening outing to Bowbazar found me exploring sweet shops, almost two hundred years old. Of course, the mission was to procure "ghee poa" an age old delicacy made with semolina, milk, sugar and fried in ghee. A perfect way to celebrate "dol utsav".
