Vivekananda, Sri Ramkrishna Ashram, Nimpith was established with the noble
objective of imparting education and health care services as well as elevating
the economically and socio-culturally backward people of Sundarbans.
- Swami
Buddhanandaji Maharaj (a member of the Ramakrishna Monastic order) founded the
Sri Ramkrishna Ashrama (a Non-Governmental Organization), in 1960. It was
constructed with the co-operation from the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of West
Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. The Ashram is not a Branch of the Ramakrishna
Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, but it follows the same ideals and
ideologies.
- It is a member centre of South 24 Paraganas Ramakrishna Vivekananda
Bhava Prachar Parishad of Belur Math, and follows their practices.
- The Ashram is situated at Nimpith in Jaynagar of South 24 Parganas district in the Indian
state of West Bengal. The Ashram has 3 branch centres at Kaikhali, Jhargram
and Bardhaman.
- Over the years the Ashram provides consistent service to
mankind by its role in empowering the people of Sunderbans to combat poverty,
superstitions, illiteracy, unemployment, poor sanitation and social evils.

- Ramkrishna Ashram
Krishi Vigyan Kendra established in association with the Indian Council of
Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, in 1979.
- The Vivekananda Institute of Biotechnology
a branch organization of Sri Ramkrishna Ashram, Nimpith was established in 1991
being funded by DBT, DST and CAPART (Govt. of India). Today it functions as a
SIRO (Scientific & Industrial Research Organization) recognized by DSIR,
Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.

Research Laboratory recognized by University of Burdwan and a Technology
Resource Centre for the coastal saline zone of West Bengal.

the institute is to develop skill based biotechnology programmes for providing
sustainable entrepreneurship and employment to the village inhabitants.

- From Nimpith ashram, Kaikhali Dwip is a 30 km drive. The Kaikhali Guest
House managed by Ramkrishna Mission is situated adjacent to the Matla River. The
area marks the confluence of the river with the Bay of Bengal and harbors a
rich mangrove vegetation and faunal diversity. Many fishermen come here to get
their daily catch to be sold to the market. The serene picturesque ambience of
the place is worth a visit.
