DHAKA, BANGLADESH
Bangladesh
- As Bangladesh celebrates 50 years of Independence, I have been reminiscing my short trip a few years back to attend an International Conference.
- My posting at Taki had given me the chance to have a glimpse of Bangladesh land just on the other side of the Ichhamati River.
- Coincidentally, my current read traces the history of Bengal dating to times prior to the Aryan supremacy up to the formation of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
- Although my ancestral roots are entirely from West Bengal, I have been ever fascinated by “opar Bangla”. The rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh, her delectable cuisine, the Dhakai sarees (yes, I possess a few) and the hospitality of her people have been forever etched in my heart.
