Taratirtha (Terracotta Shiva Temple), Uttarpara
Opposite to Uttarpara Police Station is the Mandirbati Ghat on the banks of the Hoogli River. The Dakshineshwar Bhbatarini Mandir can be seen at a distance. Close to the ghat, there are three terracotta temples established in 1795, by Shri Pnchanan Bandyopadhyay , more than 225 years ago. Hence these are much ancient to the Dakshineswar Temple itself. The peaceful ambience of the place and the greenery all around are noteworthy. Intricate terracotta carvings can be found on the temple walls, although repairs of the ruined portions made no effort to restore the craftsmanship. The three Shiva temples are dedicated to Baba Panchanan, Baba Sankar nath and Baba Siddhi nath. Daily worship is carried out. Within the same premises is a temple dedicated to Maa Tara (a form of Goddess Kali). This temple was established in 1968.
